Did you know that there were 1.7 million self-published books in 2018? That’s a 40 percent increase from 2013, which makes it the best time ever for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) authors to get our work out there! That’s why we created the Self Ink It™ Awards. The thought behind this award is to bring the “voice” of BIPOC authors to the forefront in the self-publishing community by recognizing and showcasing our talent.

Self-publishing is becoming one of the most exciting and effective ways that authors and illustrators are getting noticed. The popularity has grown so much faster than any of us ever imagined.

How the Self Int It Awards Work

The contest runs from November 1- December, 2022 and finalist will be announced in March and the winners in April 2023. From January to February the books will be reviewed by our judging panel to decide the top 5 finalists from each category.

We are on a mission to amplify the voices of self-published Black and Indigenous Peoples of Color (BIPOC) authors. Diverse books are crucial to understanding our world and realities, yet BIPOC authors remain largely invisible in today’s literary culture. By bringing diverse books to light, we can give self-published BIPOC authors a voice, help them feel less alone in their work, and remind everyone that their stories matter.
